Poland: Resovia returning to fight for top 4, Nowakowski push Warszawa over Katowice and Radom back to the victory

2 min read

Asseco Resovia Rzeszów stunned Trefl Gdańsk in the 2020/21 Polish Plusliga regular season.
It seems that they have woken up to reach the top 4 in the PlusLiga charts for the playoffs: in a delayed match of the 1st round, they prevailed over third-placed Trefl in 5 sets, partially 25:20, 29:31, 26:24, 17:25, and 17:15. With a third victory in a row, to which they were led by Slovenian Klemen Čebulj (23 points, including 4 blocks) and Estonian Timo Tammemaa (MVP of the match with 11 points, 54% in attack and 4 blocks), Resovia claimed 6th place in the standings.

Such an outcome suited VERVA Warszawa ORLEN Paliwa: The team from polish Polish capital earned the 4th victory in a row (3-0 vs GKS Katowice in Round 21) and reduced the gap in relation to Trefl to just 2 points. Bartosz Kwolek scored 16 points for the team commanded by Andrea Anastasi while Piotr Nowakowski (MVP of the match) set up as many as 8 blocks, and Igor Grobelny had 74 % reception (23 digs 35 % perfect).
In evening match, Cerrad Enea Czarni Radom defeats last-placed MKS Bedzin in straight sets after 5 losses in a row.
