Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel from Austria claimed their fourth victory this Mevza League season. On Saturday evening, they win the Austrian derby against UVC Holding Graz, celebrating a hard-fought tie break victory on the road (23:25, 22:25, 25:17, 25:18, 15:8). On the other hand, the competition rookies and last-placed in the charts secured their very first point in the competition.
Marek Sulc, Maciej Borris and Daan Streutker were the top scorer with 17 points each, while Mark Kremer and Johannes Kratz top scored for the hosts with 23 and 10 points, respectively. The winners was essentially better at blocking (18 vs 5 points) and in attack (50% vs 43%).
Recall that, already in December, the Mevza Executive Committee announced that URW would be hosting the Final Four tournament for the second year in a row: it will be played on February 27 and 28 at the Zwettl sports hall. Of course, as organisers Waldviertel who cemented fifth place in competition are already qualified for the season’s grand finale.
The MEVZA League will continue next Wednesday, when HAOK Mladost Zagreb from Croatia will be facing OK Calcit Kamnik from Slovenia!
