Brazil: despite a bad game, Taubaté secured second place

2 min read

The recovery match between Funvic Taubaté and Renata Campinas was played on the European night. Guests without setter Gonzalez (precautionary out in view of the playoffs due to some ailments) and the bombers Vissotto and Vaccari remain on the bench (the latter put on the field from the 2nd set).
The match should therefore be easy for Taubaté which in fact seems to destroy the rivals (25:19, 12:4). But then coach Weber’s team falls asleep, also due to the bad evening of an imprecise Bruno and the disastrous one of an unrecognizable Lucas (-20% attack efficiency).
Thus, from 2-0, the match arrives incredibly at 2-2 despite a blaze in the service of Felipe Roque who, in the 4th set, allows Funvic to go back from 14:22 to 22:22.
In the tie-break Taubaté even risks defeat (6:10), but then they wins thanks mainly to Mauricio Souza and MVP Douglas Souza (21 points and 61% in attack).
With this result, Taubaté is mathematically second and Campinas mathematically third in the charts, and therefore the 2 teams will face themselves in the semifinals except for big surprises in the quarter-finals.
