Austria: Amstetten waives the 3rd semi-final duel with Aich/Dob, Sokol – Klagenfurt for fifth place postponed

The third match of the DenizBank AG Volley League Men semi-final series between SK Zadruga Aich / Dob and VCA Amstetten NÖ in the JUFA-Arena Bleiburg will no longer be played. After a few positive coronavirus cases among the guests forego a rescheduling, so the Carinthians move into the final with a 3-0 score and Amstetten will play in the battle for third place in two weeks.

“After the Coronavirus cases at STEELVOLLEYS Linz-Steg and TJ Sokol Wien V, we tested our team intensively and we currently have one positive player and two positive among team staff. We have taken all the necessary precautions, but we want to wait for the next few days to see whether the situation could get worse for us. All team activities are suspended until next Tuesday,” explained VCA sports director Michael Henschke.

In order not to expose their players to any further risk and not to endanger their rivals, Aich/Dob have also decided not to reschedule.
“We thought about it for a long time and came to the decision that this is the most sensible way. Of course it is a shame for our team to give up the chance to reach the finals, but the health of the players is the most important thing, ”said VCA chairwoman Sabrina Kreuziger.

The championship continues tonight, with the thrilling duel between Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel and UVC Holding Graz (the series is 1-1, and Game 3 will be played tonight at 7pm in Graz), and the challenge for fifth place among the favorite and hosts UVC Weberzeile Ried/Innkreis and VBC TLC Weiz.
The other duel for fifht place between Sokol Wien and VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt is postponed until further notice….
