The semi-final Games 2 of the Brazilian Superliga were played on the European night in the Saquarema bubble. As expected, Minas Tenis Clube and Funvic Taubaté finished the series in 2 games and now they will face each other in the final.
Minas Tênis Clube eliminated a combative Vôlei UM Itapetininga (who had some set points in the first set) and advanced to the playoff finals of 2020/21 Brazilian Superliga Banco do Brasil, which will be their first face-off for the national championship title in 12 years. Itapetininga failed to make another upset in the post-season after kicking out Sada Cruzeiro, which was the first-ever time that an 8th-seeded side won the series against the regular-season winners in the playoffs, and got swept in both games of the semifinal! Cuban Yadrian Escobar scored 22 piunts for Minas in Game 2, while Argentine Nicolás Lazo made 75% reception (17 digs, 47% excellent).
As expected, EMS Taubaté Funvic will be Minas’ opponents in the title fight as they eliminated 3rd-seed Vôlei Renata with a 2-0 in the series of the semifinals (3-1 and 3-0). Felipe Roque (18 points) led the club from the State of São Paulo in progress to their 2nd successive playoff finals, while MVP of the match was Douglas Souza, who made the same number of points, 63% in attack 1 block and 2 aces. Interestingly, he will wear the italian Vibo Valentia’s jersey next season.
Thales Hoss was superb in defense, making 86% reception (21 digs, 1 error, 71% excellent).
However, very important was, in the final of the 1st set, the entry of Joao Rafael at 24:22 who, first propitiated 2 break points from the service line, and then achieved the ace of overtaking 24:25.
