Italy: Modena’s victory over Milano in final for 5th place close 2020/21 Superlega

1 min read

With the final for fifth place and Scudetto assigned to Civitanova, the Italian Superlega Credem Banca has officially closed on Sunday, April 25.
It was a bad end for Allianz Powervolley Milano who, in the last act of the 5th place playoffs, was defeated on their home soil by Modena, by 1-3 (25:16, 20:25, 20:25, 15:25).
Despite reigning champions, Milano will not be able to defend the CEV Challenge Cup won just 30 days ago in Ankara, winning the final against Ziraat.
With the exception of the first set, the match was one-sided, with the winners literally dominating from start to finish.
Good performance by Karlitzek, also top scorer of the match with 17 points with 43% in attack on 28 attempts, 2 blocks and 3 aces, but among the winners very good also Mazzone: 7/8 in attack and 3 aces. Patry is the best among the hosts with 16 points but, after a dazzling start (4 winning attacks and 3 aces in the first set), fails to be constant.
