Austria: what a comeback for Weiz! Amstetten destroys Hartberg, Waldviertel struggles against Sokol, Ried ok

2 min read

In their first home match in Austrian top division since 2017, newcomers Hypo Tirol VT surrenders after 2-0 set lead to VBC TLC Weiz. 2-3 is the final result, partially 25:22, 25:20, 22:25, 18:25 and 12:15. For Weiz, this was the first win (and first two points!) of this season. Top scorers of the match were Finn Örley with 13 points for the hosts, and Alexander Bauer with 20 points for Weiz.

Second game, second victory for VCA Amstetten NÖ! This time, they literally destroyed TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg at home, and the match ended in straight sets, partially 25:17, 25:13 and 25:22.
The hosts were better in all elements: 42-33 in attack, 4-0 aces and 10-5 blocks. The best scorers of the winners were Patryk Napiorkowski with 16 points and Jakub Czyzowski with 12 points, while Maximilian Steinböck tallied 14 points for Hartberg. Moreover, this was the last match of Amstetten’s middle-blocker Philip Ichovski, who ended yesterday his professional career.

Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel struggles to win over TJ Sokol V / Post SV Wien. In a duel between two teams who won their opener games of this new season, the team from Austria capital gave the favorite Waldviertel a great fight, making a comeback from 0-2 and also fought for every point in the tie break. Partially it was 17:25, 15:25, 25:19, 25:18 and 13:15, and the rivals eventually were better in attack, 43-49, and from the service line, with 15 aces! (against 7 of the hosts). The top scorers of the game were Clemens Ecker with 22 points, while Peter Schnabel and Marek Sulc made 15 points each for the winners.

All easy for UVC Ried/Innkreis, who achieved their first full success in their new Raiffeisen Volleydome. They defeats VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt by 3-0 after a thrilling first set. Partially it was 28:26, 25:15 and 25:22. The hosts took advantage of 28 errors from their rivals. Tomasz Rutecki (14) and Markus Berger (11) were the top scorers among the winners, while the top scorer of the game was Klagenfurt’s Arwin Kopschar with 18 points.
