Chaumont got their hands on the 2021 French Volleyball Super Cup.
Following an ace by Jesús Herrera, they swept Cannes in straight sets (25:20, 27:25, 30:28) to take their second Supercoupe Masculine in their history and took revenge on the rivals for losing the last final of the national championship.
In details, Chaumont inaugurated its new arena by putting its second Super Cup on the showcase after the one won in 2017, in the last year in which the competitio was played.
Nothing to do for Cannes, who played with Fromm opposite in place of the absent Nelli and Annicette.
In the first set Chaumont, that made the difference especially in blocking (4 to 0), immediately takes a good advantage (8:14), and keeps it without problems until its end (20:25).
Cannes reacts in the second set and seems to have started to level the score (23:21), but in the crucial moment Fromm is blocked three times in a row: 23:23, 24:25 and 25:27.
The reigning French champions still try to reopen the game in the third set, with a winning block on 14:10, but the hosts pull hard from the service line and, with a sensational play on the Massimino-Herrera axis (with the latter initially left on bench) finds the overtaking: 15:16.
The end is very balanced: Chaumont arrives first at the match point (23:24), but Cannes cancels two and goes on with Gelinski’s ace (26:25). However, the hosts cancel 3 set points, come back with a dubious foul by Klyamar revealed by the video check (28:29), and close with Herrera’s bomb from the service line that literally breaks down Mouiel. And 28:30 is the final score.
