Russia: Lokomotiv destroys titleholders, Zenit St. Petersburg beat Belogorie in tie-break and the others of Round 3

3 min read

Lokomotiv stuns titleholders Dinamo Moscow in Round 3 of the 2021/22 Russian Superliga Parimatch.
Dinamo Moscow had the hardest possible schedule at the start of the competion, and it had to leave wounds on them.
The defending champions almost stumbled against Belogorie in the first round, they prevailed over Zenit Saint Petersburg in an exhausting match worth Super Cup in Round 2 and now, they got trampled by Lokomotiv (0-3: 22:25, 21:25, 20:25) Round 3. Novosibirsk side was dominant, and in fact it didn’t even need to have a double-digit player on the scoresheet to achieve a win!
Dinamo Moscow was unrecognizable, and conceded 32 point errors, of which 21 in serving and 10 in attack. The best was probably Luburic, with 75% in attack, but on only 12 balls. The team from the Russian capital thus interrupts the streak of consecutive victories between the championship and cups at 25.

The powerhouse Belogorie is showing clear signs of returning to the top after many years.
Despite they lost 2-3 against vice-champions Zenit St. Petersburg, the same as against Dinamo Moscow in Round 1, and even though they have only one victory so far, the club from Belgorod definitely can aim to title contenders.
Egor Kliuka (who played the first set as a outside-hitter and the last 4 as opposite after the entry of Voronkov in place of Podrebinkin, but also decided the tie-break with a long serving time) was unstoppable for Zenit, with 34 points and 60% attack, including six aces, while Ivan Yakovlev set up five blocks.
Among the guests, very bad day for Petric, who ended up on the bench with just 5 points and -7% efficiency in attack.

The other tie-break of the day was played in Ufa where Yenisey Krasnoyarsk won, despite the heavy absence of the opposite Klets.
Dinamo LO also wins on the road and, despite the opaque performance of Zhigalov and Ivovic (both ended up on the bench) overcomes the young players of Fakel Novy Urengoy 3-1 in comeback, For Fakel this was their debut in the competition.
The picture closes with 3-1 by ASK Nizhniy Novgorod over Yugra Samotlor Nizhnevartovsk, Kuzbass Kemerovo’s win on the modest Neftyanik Orenburg.
