Italian SuperCup: Trento joins Monza to Final

Itas Trentino is the second finalist of the Italian Del Monte® Super Cup.
The CEV Champions League club vice-champions Itas Trentino left another Scudetto finalist from last season empty-handed.
Lorenzetti’s side defeated Sir Safety Perugia in just three sets (25:21, 25:21, 25:23) and thus will play tomorrow in the final against Vero Volley Monza, who eliminated the super-favorite Civitanova, winning the match in four sets.
Thus one surprise was not enough in the semi-finals, as the 26th edition of the competition will end with the least predictable final.

Perugia head coach Nikola Grbić put American Matt Anderson to the position of the opposite hitter, but Lorenzetti had a creation of his own to respond, putting three outside hitters in the lineup on several occasions during the match.
The first two sets were relatively similar, with Perugia attempting the initial escape, and Trento chasing with a maximum delay of three points, then making a difference in blocking and serving, reopening and conquering the set.
Not surprisingly, the elements that allowed the winners to reach 2-0 are mainly the block (6 winning blocks in two sets), but also the attack, especially that of the middle-blockers, where Podrascanin has 100%.
On the other side of the net, in this phase the performance of Leon was not enough, the most constant in attack, but not entirely positive in reception, and of middle-blocker Solé, while Rychlicki ends up on the bench for Plotnytskyi (and don’t return on the field even for the third set, in which Perugia remains in the game, at least until 12-12, and after coach Grbic has replaced starting setter Giannelli with Travica.
The final is balanced, but Trento is always one break ahead, and Anderson’s serve out decides the match.

Bulgarian Matey Kaziyski played like in his best days, scorying 15 points, and was one of as many as five players in double digits on the scoresheet. Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León was the only player in Perugia who managed to come up with some solutions, tallying 16 points.

So, tomorrow at 6 p.m. local time, at Eurosuole Forum, Monza and Trentino will face for the trophy in the 2021 Super Cup.
