Brazil: defending champions made a great start under a new name. Win also for Blumenau
2 min read
No surprises in the matches of the Brazilian Superliga played last european night.
Former EMS TaubatƩ Funvic, now under a new name, start 2021/22 Brazilian Volleyball Championship with the right foot against GoiƔs VƓlei.
After a turbulent summer during which they left TaubatƩ due to the lack of financial support and started a legal battle against the Brazilian federation (CBV), the Superliga two-time champions debuted in the new season with confidence.
Now under the new name, VĆ“lei Funvic Natal, new base city, Natal, and a recontructed roster without stars such as Bruninho, Borges, Douglas Souza, MaurĆcio Souza, they beat the leagueās newcomers GoiĆ”s 3-0 (25:14, 25:19, 25:15) at NĆ©lio Dias, the hall that will be their new home instead of GinĆ”sio do AbaetĆ©.
In the other match Blumenau, even if imprecise in the second part of the match, defeats the modest Uberlandia 3-1 (who also lost their best players in the summer).
Sadly, even today no team was able to publish the match statistics on the competition’s official website, in a clear signal of the organizational and economic crisis of this Superliga.
The Super Cup will be played on Tuesday between the favorite Sada Cruzeiro and Funvic Natal who showed a good condition.
