Jastrzebski and Fenerbahçe open Champions League Pool stage with 3-0 victories

2021/22 CEV Champions League Pool Stage started today with two matches.
In Pool A, Jastrzebski Wegiel from Poland literally destroys Bulgaria’s Hebar Pazardzhik in straight sets (25:11, 25:16, 25:14) in just 60 minutes of play.
The hosts were absolutely better in all elements, scoring 9 aces, 63% of team’s attack and 12 winning blocks, against 1 ace and 1 block of the Bulgarians, and only 35% in attack.
Jan Hadrava, with 14 points, 56% in attack, 3 aces and 1 block, and Jurii Gladyr with 13 points, 88% in attack, 2 blocks and 4 aces were the top scorers of the winners, while any player on the other side of the net reached a double digit, with Bradley Gunther top scorer with 7 points.

Also the match of Pool E, ended in straight sets in favor of the home team: Turkish of Fenerbahçe HDI Istanbul defeats an AS Cannes Volley Ball from France decimated by injuries (28:26, 25:21, 25:22).

The game starts with the error in service of Cannes’ captain Klyamar.
But the guests take a break thanks to an attack from Koncilja, and a block by Koncilja himself together with the young setter Tschupp, on the field in place of Gelinski, that worth 2-4.
Menzel’s ace means 2-5, while Fromm attacks the ball of 7-10.
But Fenerbahçe disagrees: Toy attacks, and Louati continues with the ace of 10-10. The set continues in balance, with a point by Hidalgo from the second line, 15-15, but a foul by the Cannes’ setter and a block over Menzel give the advantage to the home team, who also takes advantage of an error by Bregent. Klyamar from the second line, plus an error by Hidalgo are worth 19-19, and Cannes goes on with Koncilja: 20-21.
Coach Castellani is forced to call the time-out.
An attack by Fromm and a block by Koncilja give Cannes the first set point 23:24, canceled by Toy.
Klyamar is blocked, and also Menzel in the next action, and this is the first set point for Fenerbahçe: 26:25. An ace from Louati closes the set 28:26 in favor of the hosts.

In second set, Cannes tries to escape again with a block on Toy that marks the double advantage: 6-8, but a block out by Louati brings the situation tied again.
Koncilja in attack and a great ace from Menzel on the conflict line mark 10:12, but Louati levels the score again, 14:14. Balance until the decisive break of the hosts, 20-18, then an ace from Hidalgo is worth 22-19, and forces coach Dileo to call the time out. A winning attack by Louati and an error for Cannes in serving give the set to the hosts: 25-21.

Third set point-to-point. Menzel is blocked out and makes the point of 10-11, and Louati, is blocked (but the ball ends a millimeter out), 12-12. Menzel’s error, and +2 for Fenerbahçe: 14-12. Sossenheimer, who entered the field in place of Klyamar, scores the 14-13 and also the ace that still levels the score again: 15-15. Cannes, with a couple of free balls, could have made a break, but Menzel attacks out and Hidalgo scores 17-15, forcing coach Dileo to stop the game. Score leveled again, 17-17 thanks a winning block by Fromm, and this time it is coach Castellani ask for time out. Ace by Toy, and it is double advantage for the hosts again, 19-17, and another time out for Cannes.
Hidalgo attacks out, and this is 20-18, but Menzel returns the favor in serving, making the twelfth error in this element for Cannes.
Louati scores the 22-18 with a winning attack, but the decision is changed by the video check, which said the ball was out, and with Toy’s subsequent error, Cannes tries to reopen the game, 21-20, forcing coach Castellani to ask for another time out.
A block over Louati levels the score again 21-21.
Another injury for Cannes: Gruvaeus, entered the field for the block. Menzel attacks out, and is +2 for Fenerbahçe, 23-21, which also score the match point, with an attack from Louati: 24-22. It is the French outside-hitter himself to close the game: 25-22 and 3-0 for the Turkish side.

About Yacine Louati, he was the top scorer and was named MVP of the match with 20 points with 2 aces, two winning blocks and an impressive 73% in attack, while Ahmet Tümer made 4 of Fenerbahçe’s 8 winning blocks.
Jeffrey Menzel was the most prolific player among the guests with 17 points, but only with 44% in attack, and the best was Danijel Koncilja, with 4 winning blocks, 11 points and 88% in attack.
