Champions League: a recovered coach Placì commands his Hebar to achieve a historic win, Trentino sweep Fenerbahçe

3 min read

Hebar Pazardzhik and Trentino Itas recorded their first victory in the 2022 CEV Volleyball Champions League at the closing of Round 2 of the group stage, and for the former, it was a historic one!

In Pool A, the champions of Bulgaria Hebar Pazardzhik achieved their first, historic victory in the group stage of the competition.
Commanded by Italian expert Camillo Placì, who was absent for a couple of months from the bench of the Pazardzhik side due to health problems, they beat Germany’s VfB Friedrichshafen 3-2 (25:13, 18:25, 22:25, 25:11, 15:12) at home. The German side lost both matches they played in the pool in the tie-break. Italian Jacopo Massari top-scored the winning side with 20 points, while Teodor Salparov made 80% reception (10 digs, one error, 70% excellent).

Camillo Placi, Head Coach of Hebar Pazardzhik: “I think our opponents were very weak in the first set, as well as us; the important thing is that we managed to clear our heads, we managed to make it, and that won us the game. We managed to win, not so much because of our experience, but because of technique and good tactics.

Jacopo Massari, MVP of the match: “We worked very hard to get here and I am happy that there are people in the hall and I want to thank everyone for their support and emotion.

In Pool E, the home match against Turkey’s Fenerbahçe HDI İstanbul had to be won at any cost by Italy’s Trentino Itas after the defeat in the first round to the countrymen Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia.
And so, Angelo Lorenzetti’s players accomplished the task, by beating the rivals in straight sets, partially 25:21, 25:22 and 25:17.
With 19 points including 6 kill blocks, Lavia is named MVP of the match, and his team was slightly better on the winning spikes (43 to 38; 53% team efficiency) and in blocking with 10 kill blocks (to three). Both Trentino and Fenerbahce ended the match with seven aces each.

Angelo Lorenzetti, Head coach of Trentino Itas: “We needed this victory to get back in the race, considering that we will have to fight against Fenerbahçe for qualification. Tonight, we have alternated good and less positive things, but the spirit has always been the right one.
