Italy: Verona defeats Piacenza in recovery match of Round 12

The recovery match of Round 12 of Superlega CredemBanca between Verona Volley and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza was played today, a match that had been postponed for several cases of Coronavirus among the guests. In a roller coaster match, the match went in favor of the hosts, who can celebrate Christmas in advance, with a good tie break win. Partially it was 18:25, 25:22, 15:25, 25:20 and 15:10.

In the first set, Piacenza try to escape, with Lagumdzija who made the first ace of the day. Verona immediately shortens the distance with a winning block, 5-6, and the ace of Magalini, worthing 9-9, equalizes the score. However, the guests thanks to a heavy performance from the service line, stretch up to 16-20, which the hosts try to fill with attacks from Mozic (who will finish the match as top scorer of Verona, with 25 points). But, once again, Rossard’s serving is punitive, and the set ball is in the hands of Stern, who closes with an ace.

In the second set it is Verona who leads the game in the first exchanges, and Cortesia with an attack and a block signs the 9-8. 18-15 for the hosts, thanks to Aguenier and Mozic, who closed the set with an attack and a block.
In the third set a great start for Piacenza, which signs the 1-5 after an infinite exchange, for an advantage that they maintain until the end, conquering even nine set points, closed with a service out of Verona.

In a game with many ups and downs, the fourth set is this time in favor of Verona, who starts with a couple of points ahead, but is immediately hooked by the rivals. A double block marks the 9-6, and the hosts put down the ball of 16-10, signed by an ace from Jensen. Thanks to excellent percentages in attack (62% and two aces), Mozic takes the match to the tie break, in which Verona once again starts
better, with a mini break of two points. Jensen (named MVP of the match with 16 points) and Mozic led the hosts up 8-5, and Mozic himself closes set and game, with a great diagonal attack.
