Italy: Trento beat leaders Perugia from third attempt this season. Victory also for Piacenza and Milano

4 min read

Three matches of Italian Superlega CredemBanca regular season were played today.

In the afternoon, a big match between two great rivals ended at tie break, with Itas Trentino who beat Sir Safety Conad Perugia from third attempt this season.
Following two straight-set defeats to Perugia this season, in the first leg of SuperLega Credem Banca and pool stage of the CEV Champions League, Trentino finally managed to break the spell and break rival’s 9-game run (7 in the league).
After a very long and, for large parts, an eye-catching Round 18’s match (or, if you prefer, Round 5 of second leg) played in advance, the guys coached by Angelo Lorenzetti put all the energies at their disposal on the taraflex and won 3-2 against the current leaders.
They could’ve taken all 3 points from the match, but wasted a 19-14 advantage in the 4th set.

Without taking away from the winners, Perugia played without the starting setter Simone Giannelli, and the middle-blocker Fabio Ricci, both with flu symptoms.
At the end of the match, numbers reward Trento in blocking (15-10) and in attack (48% vs. 47%), while Perugia is better in serving (4-9) and in reception (41% vs. 51% positive, 19% vs. 23% perfect).
MVP was Srecko Lisinac, author of 13 points with 85% in attack and two winning blocks. Spikers, however, played a match with lot of ups and downs: 20 points (45% in attack with 6 errors, 3 blocks and 2 aces) for top scorer Kaziyski, while Michieletto made 17 points with 48% in attack, 2 aces, but only 6% in reception and 3 aces suffered, while Lavia struggles to put the ball on the ground (16 points with only 37%), but responds with 5 winning blocks.
11 points also for a Podrascanin better in blocking (4) than in attack (50%).
On the other side of the net, the top scorer is as usual Leon with 28 points and 49% in attack, 2 blocks and 5 aces. Good performance also for Rychlicki who, after COVID, closes the match with 22 points (58% in attack, 1 ace and 3 blocks), while it was a bad day for Plotnytskyi, author of 7 points with only 26% in attack and then replaced by Anderson.

In the other match valid for Round 18, Gas Sales Piacenza wins 3-0 at home against a Vero Volley Monza without Grozer (who was injured in the previous match in Modena) at the end of a very balanced match, despite the result,
especially in the first and third partial, with an exciting final phase, which ended 34-32 after many set points canceled on both sides.
So, without Grozer, guests played with Davyskiba opposite, but also used in reception, and young Bulgarian outside-hitter Karyagin on the field in starting six. But eventually Piacenza was rewarded by the greater constancy of performance, also thanks to the defenses of Scanferla, decisive especially in the second set. Monza was better in blocking (10 vs. 7) but receives worse (43% vs. 67% of positivity), suffering even 7 aces.

The protagonists of the match among the winners were a very good Recine, with 13 points and 55% in attack, but above all a perfect Holt (8/8 in attack, and the block who closed the game) and Rossard who in the end closed with good numbers (12 points, 53% in attack, 77% positivity in reception and 3 aces).
On the other side of the net Karyagin ends the match with a good 50% in attack, while the best is certainly Davyskiba, author of 21 points, 59% in attack and the only 3 direct points from the service line for Monza.

Played in the evening, close the picture a match valid for Round 13, the last round of first leg, in which Allianz Milano won at tie break on the field of newcomers Gioiella Prisma Taranto (29:27, 22:25, 16:25, 25:21, 10:15).
