Italy: Milano and Modena win the only two matches played this weekend

3 min read

Only two matches for an Italian Superlega CredemBanca Round 17 (or, if you prefer, Round 4 of second leg) decimated from COVID-19 were played this weekend.

In the afternoon, third victory in a row for Powervolley Milano: after the successes against Taranto and Piacenza, also Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia with a clear 3-0, in front of a copious Japanese audience.
In fact, the Japanese Association of Northern Italy was present at the match to admire their stars, Yuki Ishikawa on one side on the net, and Yuji Nishida on the other.

The first set was balanced up to 15-15, then Milan turns on the turbo and, with a couple of winning blocks by Chinenyeze and Ishikawa and some errors by Vibo Valentia, take the 20-15, and an error of Nelli from the service line gives the 25-18 to the hosts.
In the second set, everything is still easy for a Milano that plays without making particular errors and, despite the time out called by Baldovin at 11-8, the situation does not change and Milano reaches +7, with an ace from Chinenyeze that worth the 16-9. 25-19 is the final score, with an attack from Ishikawa from the second line.
In the last set the music does not change, and Milano dominates the match from the first exchanges: a block of Piano over Fromm is worth 7-4, as well as the first time out for the rivals.
Upon returning to the field, the gap between the two teams increases even more: an attack by Romanò (25-13), who entered the last exchanges in place of Patry, closes the story.

At the end of the match, Jaeschke is the best among the bests, and that’s why also Milano played a really good match: for him 16 points, 67% in attack and excellent numbers also in reception, with over 70% positive. Very good also the middleblockers, Piano and Chinenyeze, with 4 winning blocks each.
Not by chance, numbers are all in favor of the winners: 4 aces vs 0, 10 winning blocks vs. 2, 56% in attack vs. 42%, 69% positive reception and 54% perfect, vs. 41% and only 22% for Vibo Valentia.
Moreover, for the guest, no players ended the match in double digit, with Nelli and Basic top scorers, with only 7 points each!

In the other match, Leo Shoes PerkinElmer Modena won at tie break on the field of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza (22:25, 18:25, 25:18, 25:23, 13:15).
For the 10th consecutive time, Modena finished the game better than their rivals.
It was a match full of twists and turns in which Andrea Giani’s guys dominated in the first two sets, then the proud players of Lorenzo Bernardi reassembled in the third and fourth, but hadn’t been able to close the comeback.
The 2 important points for the vice leaders Modena followed their 10th consecutive win in the league (the 13th consecutive win overall) in which the Dutchman Nimir Abdel-Aziz scored 24 points including 5 aces!
