Poland: Aluron return to 3rd place, renaissance of Resovia under Méndez continues!
3 min read
Other two matches of Plusliga Round 15 were played on Sunday.
In the afternoon, the renaissance of Asseco Resovia Rzeszów under the command of Marcelo Méndez continued: the PlusLiga powerhouse scored the third consecutive victory upon the arrival of the Argentine head coach.
However, they struggler a lot to defeat in four sets a reworked GKS
Katowice without opposites Jarosz and Domagala, and with Rousseaux forced to play in this position, as well as outside hitter Szymanski, second setter Nowosielski and second libero Ogorek.
Mendez’s guys lost the first set and then their life got complicated in the third, with a disadvantage 24-20, but then they won 33-31 after saving 2 set points and, in the end, they also take the hard-fought fourth set.
A team not very effective in serving (20 errors with 5 aces), but with great numbers in attack (62% and 56% team efficiency, against the good 56% and 44% efficiency of the rivals). However, in addition to the super performance of the MVP Muzaj (25 points, 69% in attack and 67% efficiency) was enough to win the game.
In the evening, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie returned to 3rd place in the current charts. The Zawiercie side has swept Trefl Gdanks to record the 5th win in a row in the competition, leveling with 4th-placed PGE Skra Bełchatów at 33 points. Argentine Facundo Conte was the top scorer in the match with 16 points.
Also in this match, great numbers in attack for both sides (68% and 59% efficiency for the winners, 63% and 53% efficiency for Gdansk), but it is the great performance in serving of Kolakovic’s side (4 aces and 7 errors vs. 0 and 16 errors) that also made the difference.
A Gdanks who, in last action of the match, lost their middle-blocker Pablo Crer.
