Champions League: straight sets win for Dinamo Moscow, Jastrzebski and Trentino

3 min read

In a week that saw the schedule halved from 10 to 5 games due to covid, only three games were played today.

In the afternoon, in a match valid for POOL B, Dinamo Moscow overwhelmed Ziraat Bankasi Ankara, conceding just 47 points (20 of which with serving errors) to the disappointing Turkish team.
Among the winners, 19 points with 81% in attack and 2 aces by outside hitter Bogdan (preferred to Semyshev as in previous last games).
Dinamo Moscow proved to be better on the court especially in attack, with 49 winning spikes against the 22 points of Ziraat Bankasi ANKARA.

Without history also the evening match in which, in POOL A, Friedrichshafen (returning after a long covid stopper and moreover without the unavailable Vincic, on the scoresheet as Libero, and with Cacic used only in the second line) was destroyed by Jastrzebski Wegiel. Also in this case just 47 points scored by the team despite the guests having deployed their entire bench in the 3rd set (Tervaportti, Baroti and Szymura already entered during the second set, Szwed, Macyra and Bieniek on the field in the final stages).
Trevor Clevenot was named MVP with more than 65% positive reception, 73% in attack and 11 points.

Mark Lebedew, head coach VfB Friedrichshafen: “After eight days of quarantine and only eight players in the practice two days before this game, Jastrzebski was a hard task today. The result is the result. But I’m proud of my team how they fought today.

Andrea Gardini head coach Jastrzebski Wegiel: “We had the Christmas break before and we didn’t know exactly where we need to improve. But we did well tonight. We won three games now, but as you can see in Friedrichshafen, COVID can change everything this year.

In POOL E, the match between Trentino Itas and AS Cannes didn’t offer many emotions. Since the beginning, the hosts was the strongest one in every element, compared to Cannes that suffered in reception and not only also due to the absence of Sossenheimer, middle blocker Koncilja fielded again as opposite, and starting setter Gelinski on the field only from the end of second set.
Partially it was an embarrassing 25:13, 25:13 and 25:13.
Everything went well for the italian side, who ended the game with 9 aces (0 for Cannes) and the 12 winning blocks (2 for Cannes).
Alessandro Michieletto was the top scorer of the match, scoring 11 times with 3 aces, one block and 50% in attack, but it was Lisinac with best numbers: 3 blocks with 86% in attack!
Setter Riccardo Sbertoli was the MVP of the match, with 7 personal points including 3 blocks and 2 aces.

It had been 10 days since we’d played an official match and we took advantage of this match to regain some rhythm, even if we made some mistakes in attack. We wanted a result like this in order to keep on hoping for the qualification for the quarters, but we know that the upcoming matches will be certainly more difficult”, said Angelo Lorenzetti, head coach of Trentino Itas.
