Poland: Lublin put ZAKSA’s invincibility to serious test. Olsztyn and Skra stronger than absences

2 min read

Other three matches of 2021/22 Plusliga Round 16 were played on Saturday.

No team managed to outplay Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in the competition even after 15 games!
LUK Lublin were close to doing so, forcing European champions to the limits, but ZAKSA prevailed in 4 sets with each set, except the opening one, being resolved at the very end.
Łukasz Kaczmarek top-scored the winning side with 27 points, while American David Smith and Norbert Huber set up 4 blocks each.
Calf problem for Janusz, who left the field on 17-18 of fourth set.

After a very interesting fight, PGE Skra Bełchatów, weakened by the absences of the two starters Atanasijević and Łomacz defeated last-placed Stal Nysa 3-1 and remained in 3rd place in the standings. Noting to do for the rivals, who succumbed to a team better above all in attack: 56% and 42% efficiency, vs. only 47% and 27% efficiency.
It was Skra’s 5th successive win in PlusLiga (7th successive win in all competitions), despite a reworked roster, without starters Atanasijevic and Lomacz, and Sawicki.

Despite the absences of Andringa and Poreba (supposedly for COVID), and injured Averill, Indykpol AZS Olsztyn broke their own losing streak of 5 games as they beat Ślepsk Malow Suwałki in the tie-break. MVP Butryn was the man of the match with 28 points, 63% and 47%
efficiency in attack and 3 aces, but good also Defalco with 27 points, 67% in attack, 61% efficiency and 5 aces.
