Champions League: victory for Jastrzebski Węgiel and Perugia in Italian derby. All results and qualified

2 min read

Two matches of 2021/22 CEV Champions League were played today.

In POOL A, Jastrzebski Węgiel win in four sets on the field of Bulgaria’s Hebar Pazardzhik (28:26, 23:25, 19:25, 16:25), while Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia give no discount to countrymen Trentino Itas and rush to playoffs as POOL E leaders.
Just like the first match between these two rivals at the very beginning of the competition, this one also ended in straight sets in the favor of the latter.
With this result, Perugia can start thinking about the next stage of the competition.
As for Trentino, they will have to outplay France’s AS Cannes Dragons on the last day of the group stage and still depend on what happens in the other groups.
Any great fight today was out of the question given that Trentino was decimated with the absences of Podraščanin, Lisinac, and Kaziyski, on the bench and entered just in a couple of occasions.
Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León scored 21 points for the winners (who joined a small group of teams who secured playoff slots ahead of the last round of the group stage, details below) though 70% attack (16/23), including two blocks and three aces. For Trentino Itas, Lavia (17 points) and Michieletto (16) were the top scorers and last to give up.
