Italy: Padova impose tough resistance but Perugia remain alone on the top. Victory also for Taranto, Modena and Milano

4 min read

Superlega CredemBanca Round 22 or, if you prefer, Round 9 of second leg, has been completed today with only one postponement (Lube Civitanova – Top Volley Cisterna) with 4 games played.

In first match of the day, another great performance for newcomers Gioiella Prisma Taranto, who defeat 3-1 the favorite of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza. A match well run by the hosts, led by a very good Di Martino (10 points for middle-blocker), opposite hitter Stefani, top scorer of the match with 22 points, and Alletti, author of a great performance above all from the service line.
For Piacenza, on the other hand, problems again: the guests played in fact with three outside-hitters (Rossard, Russell e Recine), and forced to fielded Stern, who ended the game as top scorer (15 points).

On the other matches of the day, Kioene Padova impose tough resistance but Sir Safety Conad Perugia remain sovereignly on top.
The super favorite Perugia had to work hard to break the resistance of today’s rivals, but deserved victory, breaking the resistance of resilient Padova in 4 sets (19:25, 25:22, 25:22, 25:13).
Thus the winners conquered another 3 very important points to maintain first place in the current standings, extending the winning streak to 10 games in all competitions, 5 in Superlega. Luxembourger Kamil Rychlicki, named MVP of the match, was also the most efficient player in Perugia with 19 points, while Simone Giannelli made 4 blocks.

In the evening, another title contender was put under unexpected pressure.
After an exhausting battle in Verona, Leo Shoes PerkinElmer Modena defeat the hosts Verona Volley, in 4 sets (21:25, 25:27, 30:28, 21:25) to further strengthen 4th place in the current standings.
The hosts, who suffered another heavy defeat, were too dependent on Mozic, who ended the game with lot of ups and downs and only 44% in attack.

Four sets win also for Allianz Milano against last-placed and already relegated Consar RCM Ravenna (22:25, 25:18, 25:19, 25:19).
Thus three points for Milano despite a very low start, a victory obtained above all with a superb performance in blocking (13 winning blocks, 8 from captain Matteo Piano), while Thomas Jaeschke was named MVP of the match with 18 points and 56% in attack.
