Italy: third place for Trento! A super Padova defeat Vibo Valentia (who now risk relegation). Three points for Cisterna, Taranto (who stay in Superlega) and Perugia

4 min read

Penultimate Round of Italian Superlega CredemBanca, Round 25 or if you prefer Round 12 of second leg, has been officially completed today.

Sir Safety Conad Perugia officially confirmed themselves as kings of regular season.
They came out with a victory and 3 points from the away match against Vero Volley Monza ( 1-3 – 21:25, 32:30, 23:25, 22:25) even though their head coach Nikola Grbić employed backups, hitting the 8th consecutive victory in the championship (the 17th consecutive victory in all competitions).
The winners confirmed themselves once again excellent in blocking, with 16 points from this element at the end of the match.
The Dutchman Thijs Ter Horst was the top scorer with 26 points, 68% in
attack and a deserved MVP award, while Kamil Rychliki also contributed with 19 points, 3 blocks and several decisive blows.

Gioiella Prisma Taranto achieved the most important win of the season and are certain of staying in SuperLega for one more season, earning survival thanks to a great 3-1 (25:21, 25:23, 17:25, 25:19) victory over one of the title contenders, Leo Shoes PerkinElmer Modena, without Nimir Abdel-Aziz. A heavy absence that however does not diminish the success of the hosts, authors of a superb performance.

The simultaneous defeat of Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia also helped. In fact, they suffered a 3-1 (22:25, 25:22, 25:21, 25:22) defeat on the field of a super Kioene Padova in a direct clash to avoid relegation. The hosts, after losing first set, managed to reach the same level of first leg, to postpone the question relegation at last Round, next Sunday, in which they will face Modena in a hard away match.
Lot of numbers were in favor of the winners: 55% in attack and 56% in
reception, against 47% in attack and 46% in reception.
MVP Eric Loeppky with 17 points and 62% in attack, but probably the best was opposite Linus Weber, and not only for his 24 points (61% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block), but, above all, for when he made them: all in decisive phases of the match!

And another half verdict come from Itas Trentino. They beat Allianz Milano at tie break (28:30, 25:21, 25:20, 23:25, 15:9) to obtain 2 points, particularly important loot for the team commanded by Angelo Lorenzetti who, thanks to the defeat of Modena in Taranto, have conquered the certainty to close the regular season at least in 3rd place, but they kept a window open also for 2nd place. These two sides met each others only 8 days after the semifinal of Italian Cup and, once again, it was Trento to win the game.
At the end, stats said that they were better in serving (8-6) and blocking (12-8), in a match very balanced in attack (49%-48%). Milano better in positive receptions (41%-48%) as well as in perfect one (15%-21%), but they made more errors.
MVP, top scorer of the match, and absolute protagonist of tie break Alessandro Michieletto, author of 27 points with 47% in attack, including 5 blocks and 4 aces. 21 points also for Kaziyski (55% in attack and 3 aces) while, on the other side of the net Romanò, who replaced the absent Patry, was absolutely the best with 25 points, 51% in attack 1 blocks and 3 aces. Piano closed the game with 12 points, 9/10 in attack (90%) and 3 blocks.

Close the picture a 1-3 victory of Top Volley Cisterna on the field of already relegated (and winless) Consar RCM Ravenna (25:20, 11:25, 21:25, 19:25).
For the winners, this means to stay in Superlega also next season and maybe even playoffs (decisive the last round), while for Ravenna, on the other hand, rumors said a possible good bye of the historic italian club, also regarding Serie A2 and A3.
