VNL 2022: Poland defeat Brazil! Three points also for USA vs. Serbia in Pool 4

In their fifth match in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, Poland took revenge on Brazil for losing last year’s final of the competition.
In Pool 4’s duel of Week 2 in Sofia, Bulgaria, Poland played a really strong match and dominated Brazil for most of its course with the score of 1-3 (16:25, 25:22, 16:25, 22:25) to add three points to their account. It was a rematch of the final of last year’s VNL but with a completely different outcome that gave Nikola Grbić’s guys fourth win in five matches and third win in a row. Compared to Week 1, Poland was stronger for a few new players and Kurek too, while Brazil also got some reinforcements, Lucarelli and Leal. Poland’s victory today was historic, as they beat Brazil for the first time from the position of the world no.1 ranked team!
Brazil, on the other hand, for the first time in four years, has a losing streak of three games.
Kamil Semeniuk top-scored the winners with 18 points including 4 aces, while Mateusz Bieniek was amazing from the service line as he scored 7 aces! Jakub Kochanowaki also contributed with 4 winning blocks.

On the second match of the day, USA defeat Serbia with the same result (1-3, partially 24:26, 25:23, 23:25 and 20:25) in another big match on schedule to record their fifth victory in as many games in the competition. Each set, with the exception of the fourth, could go either way, but eventually, the winners remained undefeated in the competition with a perfect 5-0. After this outcome, Serbia has two victories and three defeats. Torey DeFalco was the most prolific player on the winning side with 25 points, while David Smith made 4 winning blocks.
