VNL 2022: Serbia tremble but defeat Canada at tie break, Brazil defeat Iran in straight sets! First win for Australia

Fourth day of matches in Pool 4 in Sofia of 2022 Volleyball Nations League.
Serbia’s series of setbacks is finally over. After three defeats in a row, the European powerhouse with a rejuvenated team turned the match against Canada from 0-2 to 3-2 (20:25, 19:25, 25:20, 26:24, 15:11). Interestingly, this was the third match in a row between these tow sides that had to be ended at the tie-break!
Aleksandar Atanasijević finished the match as top scorer with 22 points.
In second match, Brazil wins but loses Alan.
Brazil has definitely returned to the winning path with the second successive victory. However, even though they beat Iran in straight sets (28:30, 23:25, 19:25), they can’t be joyful, as they lost one of their best player in this first part of the Nations League, the competition’s top scorer until yesterday Alan Souza.
The opposite was injured at the end of the first set, leaving the court in tears and carried out by his teammates. The extent of Alan’s injury has yet to be assessed. He was replaced by his sibling Darlan Souza. Ricardo Lucarelli was the most prolific player among the winners today with 15 points, while Isac Santos made 4 winning blocks.
In third and last game of the day, Australia managed to earn their first success in VNL 2022.
They lost all five games they played thus far and their maiden success came against Pool hosts Bulgaria after a tie-break (21:25, 25:13, 25:22, 20:25, 17:15) and despite the rival’s 17 blocks.
Lorenzo Pope top-scored the winners with 21 points, while Beau Graham had a 73.33% attack (11/15).
