In last quarterfinal, Iran commits 39 errors and succumbs to a Poland who fly to semifinals!
In a very emotional match in Bologna, the national team of Poland experienced a very difficult moments on the court in Bologna, Italy, as they had to fight for victory over Iran at tie-break.
That’s when the MVP of the last CEV Champions League, Kamil Semeniuk, his team’s top scorer today with 17 points, took matters into his own hands, playing a great game above all in the key moments of the match.
Despite Iranian opposite Amin Esmaeilnezhad played a great game against and was the top scorer with 22 points, Semeniuk was the big hero, delivering six important points in the tie-break alone! Captain Bartosz Kurek also contributed with 15.
Given that they advanced to the Final 8 from second place, and the Iranians from the seventh, the Nikola Grbic’s guys were indicated as the favorites of this game. However, the most recent head-to-heads favored the rivals.
The titleholders of the Asian Championship in fact won the last two matches against the Poland National Team: a year ago, for the opening of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and at the beginning of July. But, unlike the latter match in which Poland committed as many as 41 errors, this time Iran was the team that made more errors on the court, 39, which turned out to be the crucial factor that led to their defeat.
“It was a tough match and we are so happy because we took revenge for the last game, which was also very difficult, and now we are in the semifinals. We have one day off to take a good rest and be ready for USA,” said Kamil Semeniuk, after the game.
