Day 2 of 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship: the Netherlands and and Turkey open their respective campaigns with 3-0 wins each.

The national team of the Netherlands opened its campaign with a confident win over Egypt in Pool F in Slovenia’s capital of Ljubljana. Only the second set saw the team commanded by Roberto Piazza have a hard time with the North Africans. However, as is often the case, it was Nimir Abdel-Aziz who played the main role for its side. In fact the opposite finished the match as absolute top scorer with 21 points.
Partially it was 25:17, 25:22 and 25:16.

On the same Pool, Argentina makes as many as 52 errors and loses to Iran in an amazing 5-set battle!
Iran and Argentina, the current Olympic bronze medalist, presented themselves to the audience in Ljubljana in the first match of both sides in the competition with a battle full of twists and turns.
The team from the Western Asian nation took advantage of a gigantic number of errors from their rivals: 3-2 (25:22, 28:30, 18:25, 34:32, 21:19).
Argentina, without their starting outside hitter Ezequiel Palacios, turned out to be more nervous, committing in fact as many as 52 unforced errors (compared to 38 of Iran).
Yes, that’s true!
More than two sets in errors!
And there were 36 failed serves. Because of that, Argentina’s great team’s blocking output (14 stuff points; Agustín Loser set up 8!) couldn’t save the match. Three of the five sets, including tie-break, went into overtime, with Argentina having four match points and Iran converting their second, following Ebadipour’s block on Martin Ramos and Facundo Conte’s attack that went wide for 21-19 in the fifth set in favor of Iran for whom Milad Ebadipour ended the game as top scorer with 21 points.
Facundo Conte was the most prolific player with 20 points for Argentina.

It was all easy and simple for Turkey in Pool E’s encounter against China. Nedim Özbey’s guys left no way out for the Asians (25:15, 25:19, 25:14).
The top scorer of the game was the opposite on the winning side Adis Lagumdžija who ended the game with 19 points. However, the output of his teammate Baturalp Burak Güngör has to be stressed, as the outside hitter had a super-performance in the first set: 7/7 in attack! And he finished the match with 17 points, including 5 aces.
Zhang Jingyin was the only player in double digits in scoring for China with 10 points.

In last match of the day, also valid for Pool E, Italy sweeps Canada but only after converting 12th set point in 3rd!
Italy’s debut at the World Championship in Poland and Slovenia was successful, and began in the best possible way. Ferdinando De Giorgi’s guys outplayed Canada 3-0, with the result in sets of 25:13, 25:18, and 39:37. The third set, however, brought the most uncertainty to the match, and It took the reigning European champions as many as 12 set points to prevail!
Daniele Lavia was the most prolific player as he put down 18 points for Italy, including 4 blocks, just like his teammate Gianluca Galassi, while Ryan Sclater scored 12 points for Canada.
