Russia: Lokomotiv’s reception tremble with 9 aces of setter Pankov! Dinamo Moscow win remake of last playoff final. Three points also for Kazan and St. Petersburg

2 min read

After Wednesday’s advance, in which Dynamo LO defeated Yenisei Krasnoyarsk in straight sets, other three matches of Round 2 of 2022/23 Russian Volleyball Championship were played today.

Dinamo Moscow crushed Lokomotiv with their brutal service in the big match, by beating their rivals at home in four sets: 25:22, 16:25, 25:21, 25:21.
By prevailing in a remake of the last season’s playoff final, in which they also prevailed, the team from Russian capital earned its second victory in the new season and now expects a meeting for the Super Cup against Zenit-Kazan, in a match that will take place on October 15.
Dinamo were just ruthless in service against the Novosibirsk side, making 18 aces, half of that number goes on the account of Pavel Pankov!
No wonder the powerful setter was awarded Best Server in season 2021/22! His teammate Yaroslav Podlesnykh top-scored for the titleholders with 19 points, while Ilya Kazachenkov scored 20 points for the vice champions.

In their last match before the match for the Russian Super Cup, the bronze medalists Zenit-Kazan beat Nova Novokuybyshevsk with a clear 3-0 (25:19, 25:21, 25:13).
For the first time this season, American setter Micah Christenson, who recovered from an injury sustained at the World Championship, entered the court for the Tatarstan giants. His teammate Dmitriy Volkov was the top scorer of the match with 14 points.

Led by Viktor Poletaev, who ended the match with 14 points, (76% in attack, 13/17), Maksim Kosmin (4 blocks), and the Frenchman Jénia Grebennikov, who was almost perfect in the second line with 90% reception; 10 digs, 60% excellent), Zenit Saint Petersburg swept Neftyanik without major problems (15:25, 13:25, 18:25) to reach a 2-0 record.
