France: Sète and Saint Nazaire win at tie break advances of Round 5

First two matches of 2022/23 Ligue A Round 5 were played today, and both ended in five sets!

In first game scheduled, Sète defeat Nice in front of their home fans after a comeback from 0-2 (21:25, 22:25, 25:23, 25:17, 15:10). The match was very nervous, above all starting from third set, and ended with the victory of the home side, led by USA National Team member Kyle Russell, who ended the game as absolute top scorer (28 points, 55% in attack and 5 of 13 aces of his team), and Argentine Maximiliano Gauna (named MVP of the match), who also contributed with 15 points, 2 aces, 3 winning blocks and 91% in attack! On the loosing side, who played again without middle blocker Rodney Ah Kong, Nice’s captain Steven Marshall scored 17 points with 1 ace and 1 winning block, 54% in attack and 62% positive reception. Despite another heavy defeat, Nice earned one point, but the players around coach Rafael Redwitz are still waiting for their first victory.

About the second match of the day, after a misstep against Tours in previous round, newcomers Saint-Nazaire back the winning track by beating Toulouse after a thrilling tie break, and after a hard fought fifth set ended 19-17!
Partially it was 25:23, 24:26, 21:25, 25:22 and 19:17.
With this result, they temporarily back to the top of the current charts, waiting for the other matches of weekend. Portuguese International Laurenco Martins top-scored the winning side with 23 points, 56% in attack and 4 (of his team 15!!!) winning blocks, while Brazilian opposite Daniel Cagliari, In Toulouse’s jersey, ended the
game as top scorer with 27 points, 1 ace and 51% in attack.
