France: tie break win for Nice, Sète and Paris. Narbonne and Tours ok. Nantes down Chaumont!
2 min read
After yesterday’s advance, in which Toulouse down Tourcoing in front of their home fans, Round 11 of 2022/23 Ligue has been completed today.
Game day started with an amazing battle between Nice and Poitiers, won at tie break (24:26, 26:24, 25:23, 25:27, 15:13) by the home side (amazing…like the PHOTOGALLERY OF THE MATCH!). In a very balanced match with several mistakes of the referees (mistakes “in favor” of both sides), fans could see a battle between two opposites: Gabriel Candido, who scored 38 points for Poitiers (including 1 ace, 1 block and 61% in attack) and Celestin Cardin, who reply with 28 points, 3 aces, 1 block and 62% in attack (as well as MVP award).
Gojko Cuk was also decisive, scoring 6 of his team’s 15 winning blocks, and captain Steven Marshall also contributed with 19 points through 61% in attack, 2 winning blocks and a very good performance also in reception.
Home win at tie break also for Sète, who recover U.S. opposite Kyle Russell (25 points, 4 aces and 44% in attack) and defeat Montpellier 3-2 (22:25, 25:21, 21:25, 25:22, 17:15) in the derby, although an impressive performance of the rivals in blocking, with 16 points from this element.
But there was another game ended at tie break, and this time to win was the visiting team: Paris, in fact, down Saint-Nazaire on the road (18:25, 23:25, 35:33, 25:21, 12:15), with 15 winning blocks and 25 points by Ibrahim Lawani (56% in attack, 4 winning blocks and 1 ace).
Three points for Narbonne, who needed four sets to defeat last-placed Cambrai (21:25, 22:25, 25:22, 25:27), with 25 points by Willner Rivas (including 4 aces, 3 winning blocks, 56% in attack and MVP award), and 21 by Jordi Ramon, who scored 4 aces too, 1 winning block and 53% in attack. With this result, Narbonne climb to the fifth place in the standings, with the same number of Saint Nazaire.
And, above them, are Nantes, who staged the upset of this Round 11, after a clear 3-0 (25:21, 25:20, 25:21) home win over former leaders Chaumont. To the top, in fact, now is Tours with the same number of points, 26, who today down a combative Plessis Robinson with the same result (25:19, 25:23, 25:23).
