Italy: here’s what happened on Round 2 of Second Leg…

5 min read

Round 13 of 2022/23 SuperLega Credem Banca or, if you prefer, Round 2 of second leg, was entirely played today.

In the most balanced game of the day, Gioiella Prisma Taranto wasted a 2-0 lead in front of their fans and suffered a defeat against Top Volley Cisterna at tie break (25:13, 25:19, 24:26, 23:25, 13:15).
The hosts managed to control
the game in first two sets, and then succumbed after the comeback of Cisterna, with a match ball cancelled 24-23 in third set, closed overtime with two aces from Gutierrez, then named mvp of the game. Gutierrez himself and Dirlic were the protagonists of the comeback, with 18 and 21 points respectively. The winners were absolutely better in blocking with 12 points against the only 4 for Taranto who, however, take a very important point for the standings.

On this day, four games ended in straight sets.
Valsa Group Modena made a statement in Piacenza in one of today’s derby, preventing Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza’s further rise in the ranking and recording their fourth successive win.
Basically the Emilian derby (derby of the Emilia-Romagna region) was one-way as Piacenza, without injured pillars, Leal and Lucarelli, were unable to establish a resistance to Modena, which imposed themselves with a 0-3 (22:25, 19:25, 17:25) win and consolidated third place in the standings.
Piacenza, who went down to the fifth place, had the strength to fight only in the first set. In the second and third, Turk Adis Lagumdžija (13 points) and his teammates pretty much dominated. Tommaso Rinaldi served 4 aces while, for Piacenza, Yuri Romanò scored 13 points.

In the second derby of the day, the Derby of the Adige River and the 44th played between the two rivals, all easy for Itas Trentino, who literally destroyed WithU Verona in just three sets (25:13, 25:13, 25:16), taking third win in a row in Superlega. Decisive the performance from the service line and, at the end of this one-sided game, the winners will end with 13 points from this element, 5 by Lisinac. Trento was good also in blocking with 9 points, 4 by Kaziyski, but also in attack with 61% of team performance), with setter Riccardo Sbertoli named MVP of the match, in an evening in which Lavia (14 points through 65% and 3 ace), Lisinac (15 with 89% and two winning blocks) and Podrascanin (8 with 86%) were unstoppable.

All easy also for super favorite Sir Safety Susa Perugia, the absolute leaders in the standings, over last-placed Emma Villas Aubay Siena. As predicted, the match ended 3-0 (25:19, 25:17, 25:16), without major problems, and with the hosts able
to control basically all the game with the only exception of the very first start of second set, in which Siena take a 6-9 lead before suffering a 10-0 break with Semeniuk in serving. Of course, also numbers are clear: 57% in attack vs. 29%, and 14 winning blocks, 5 from Russo, vs. 4.
Double digit for top scorer Semeniuk (13 points with 62% in attack), Rychlicki (12 points) and for MVP Solè, who ended the game with 11 points with 1 ace, 4 blocks and 86% in attack.

In a Kioene Arena sold out, it’s only Cucine Lube Civitanova to celebrate, with a clear win over the hosts Pallavolo Padova – 0-3 (22:25, 14:25, 17:25), as predicted. And, also in this game, numbers are clear: 57% for the winners vs. 43% of the hosts, and 9 vs. 2 in blocking, 3 from Chinenyeze, who also attacks with 88% efficiency. Top scorer Ivan Zaytsev with 13 points through 55% in attack, 1 block and 1 ace.

Close the picture another derby, the third of the day, in which Vero Volley Monza stun Allianz Milano, by beating the rivals by 1-3 (18:25, 22:25, 25:22, 22:25) on the road despite the heavy absence of Georg Grozer.
For Milano, who touched a resounding comeback after the 0-2, this is second defeat in last three games, with 17 points in the standings, now at +2 from Monza itself, with 15. Davyskiba was named MVP of the match with 23 points through 64% in attack.
