Poland: ZAKSA stop Aluron. Stal Nysa make a comeback and down Bełchatów!
2 min read
Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle put an end to a huge winning streak by Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in the 2022/23 Polish Plusliga.
In the last match of the competition played this year, valid for Round 18, ZAKSA defeated the rivals 3-1 (20:25, 25:18, 27:25, 25:22) in the big match. The Poland National Team member, Norbert Huber, appeared on the court for ZAKSA for the first time after a seven-month break. However the defending champions had to face the vice leaders without starting libero Erik Shoji, who fell ill.
After taking the first set, Aluron were on their way toward taking the next one too. However, at 15-12, their outside hitter Bartosz Kwolek got a yellow and red card, and the set went the opposite way. Aluron also squandered 7-2 in the third set and the titleholders, regardless of their campaign with lot of up and down this season, should never be given so many chances to recover.
The winning side was led by Łukasz Kaczmarek who ended the game with 17 points, while Aleksander Śliwka also contributed with 4 winning blocks. Serb Uroš Kovačević tallied 24 points for Aluron, while Argentine Santiago Danani had 70% reception (23 digs, 43% perfect).
In second game played today PGE Skra Bełchatów, in front of their home fans, won first two sets without major problems against PSG Stal Nysa. But then they suffered the rivals’ comeback and also a surprisingly defeat at tie break! Partially it was 25:20, 25:21, 16:25, 21:25 and 12:15.
Wassim Ben Tara, with as many as 35 points to his name, including 5 aces, 1 block and 50% in attack, was named MVP of the game.
