Italy: no major upsets in Round 18. 3 points for Trento, Verona Milano and Civitanova

After two advances played yesterday, Round 18 or, if you prefer, Round 7 of second leg of 2022/23 Superlega CredemBanca has been completed today.
In the first game of the day, Itas Trentino won on the field of a combative Gioiella Prisma Taranto by 0-3 (24:26, 26:28, 22:25), to back to the second place with the same number of points of Modena (who defeated Siena yesterday).
To led the visiting side was once again Matey Kaziyski, who ended the game with 20 points through 62% in attack and a very good performance also from the service line with 5 aces. He made the difference above all in first set, when Taranto was ahead before suffering a comeback thanks to Riccardo Sbertoli’s serves as well as the ones of captain Kaziyski himself.
Among the hosts, another great performance of opposite Ibrahim Lawani, who put down 20 points.
Three very important points also for WithU Verona, who won in four sets on the field of Vero Volley Monza (24:26, 20:25, 25:14, 21:25).
On the final result made the difference the inaccuracies of coach Eccheli’s guys, who even wasted a 20-15 lead in first set but, above all, Vlad Davyskiba’s ankle injury during third set, in the better moment of Monza. In fourth set Verona, led by a great Rok Mozic (16 points through 55% in attack and 3 aces) take advantage of the rivals’ errors, above all from the service line, to celebrate a well-deserved success.
Not even the return of Georg Grozer was enough.
3-1 win also for Allianz Milano, who defeat Pallavolo Padova (25:18, 23:25, 25:20, 25:19) in front of their home fans in a derby between two japanese superstars Yuki Ishikawa and Ran Takahashi.
A result that allows Milano to overtake Monza in the standings and to take the seventh place, while nothing change in the fight to avoid relegation, with Padova always ahead Siena and Taranto, but with just one more point. Milano today was better in blocking, 10 vs. 2, while MVP Jean Patry was author of 22 points through 67% in attack, and Yuki Ishikawa also contributed with 19. DuĹĄan Petkovic was the most prolific player on the losing side with 18 points to his name.
Cucine Lube Civitanova was better than Top Volley Cisterna to end their unexpectedly big losing streak made of four consecutive defeats. Even today, Lube risked another setback as they started the match with a one-set deficit.
However, the reigning champions prevailed by 3-1 (20:25, 25:18, 25:23, 27:25) and climbed to 30 points and fourth place in the standings, while Cisterna remained below the playoff zone (ninth with 23 points, which is one point fewer than eighth-placed Vero Volley Monza).
Lube were led on the court today with Cuban Marlon Yant, who ended the game with 17 points, and Bulgarian Aleksandar Nikolov, who also contributed with five aces. Croatian Petar DjirliÄ scored 20 for Cisterna.
