France: Nantes win big match vs. Chaumont, and Tours down Saint Nazaire. 3 points also for Nice

2022/23 Ligue A continued today with other three games.

After a heavy defeat in Poitiers, a week ago, Nice back to the victory with a four sets home win against Plessis-Robinson (25:20, 25:15, 22:25, 25:23)

After easily take first two sets, the hosts suffered the comeback of the rivals, who started better also in fourth sets, and were very close to the tie break. Celestin Cardin ended the game as top scorer with 20 points (the same number of points of Samuel Jeanlys, on the losing side), while Rodney Ah-Kong was named MVP with 10 points, 2 blocks, 2 aces and 60% in attack. Decisive also the recovery of captain Steven Marshall, who replaced Wilian Doardo in third and fourth set, and author of the decisive winning block that leveled the score and re-opened the decisive fourth set.

In one of the two big matches of the day, Nantes won at tie break on the field of Chaumont in a direct clash for second place – 2-3 (25:20, 24:26, 23:25, 25:18, 13:15), with 16 winning blocks (13 of Chaumont) and 22 points from top scorer Chizoba Neves Atu. The hosts, on the other hand, were impressive from the service line, scoring as many as 14 aces, against the only 2 of the winners, but this wasn’t enough to win the game.

And, about the standings, now 3 teams have 41 points: Chaumont (4th), Nantes (3rd) and Saint Nazaire, who remain to the second place although the home defeat suffered today against the leaders Tours, who managed to win in just three sets. Partially it was 24:26, 23:25 and 21:25.
In a very balanced game, with lot of turnaround in both sides, the hosts wasted a 16-11 and then also a 21-17 lead in four set, and the same did Tours, in the second one. And the game ended here, with the leaders, now at +3 from the pursuers, able to control the last set from start to finish.
Aboubacar Drame Neto ended the game as top scorer with 19 points through 57% in attack, including 2 winning blocks and 1 ace.

Round 20 will be closed tomorrow with last two games.
