France: Plessis Robinson and Poitiers defeat at tie break Tours and Chaumont! 3 points for Tourcoing and Saint Nazaire
3 min read
After an advance played yesterday and in which Narbonne managed to defeat Montpellier at tie break after a 2-0 lead, Round 23 of 2022/23 Ligue A continued today with other four very interesting games.
With regular season almost over (only two Round has to be played after this one), the day started with a clear win of now No.4 in the standings Tourcoing, able to defeat without major problems, with the only exception of the start of first and third set, French Cup finalist Nice. Partially it was 22:25, 21:25 and 21:25. The hosts, however, after claiming their ticket for Grand Finale of Coupe de France (scheduled on April 2 in Paris) on Tuesday on the field of Poitiers, have to deal again with lot of absences: starting setter Javier Gonzalez until the end of season, opposite Celestin Cardin, middle blocker Franco Medina, and today also starting libero Kyle D’Agostino (absent), middle blocker Rodney Ah Kong and captain Steven Marshall (on the bench).
Good performance from the service line for the winners, who scored 8 aces, while captain Moritz Reichert was named MVP of the match. Also top scorer, he tallied 15 points including 2 aces, 1 winning block and 71% in attack.
Prediction respected in the other game ended in straight sets: after four defeats in row, Saint Nazaire back to the victory and they did it against last-placed Cambrai, struggling only towards the end of first set, despite a 16-12 lead (26:24, 25:14, 25:18).
Hugo Hamacher and Helder Mendes Spencer shared the title as top scorers with 14 points each, with the latter who made 90% in attack (9/10), 1 ace and 4 winning blocks.
No player on the losing side ended the game in double digit.
…and the other two games ended at tie break!
A really great Plessis-Robinson down leaders Tours (25:21, 23:25, 19:25, 27:25, 15:13) after recovering from 1-2, and after a thrilling 27-25 in decisive fourth set.
Both sides had a great performance in blocking, with 13 points from this element scored by the winners, while Tours put down as many as 19 winning blocks, 7 by a great Teryomenko, today author of 19 points, 2 aces and 69% in attack, while his team mate Drame Neto ended the game as top scorer with 23 points.
For the winners, De Leon was the most prolific player with 20 points through 50% in attack, 3 blocks and 2 aces.
After failed the qualification for Coupe de France Final on Tuesday, Poitiers celebrated a great home win against Chaumont, after wasting a 2-0 lead in set. However, this time, lickily for home fans, they managed to win the game (25:20, 25:21, 18:25, 23:25, 15:12). And also to surpass Nice in the standings: with the above mentioned defeat against Tourcoing in fact they slip to the 12th place, while Poitiers is at tenth.
With 15 winning blocks (against Chaumont’s 8), a good performance in attack and 22 points by brazilian bomber Gabriel Candido, Chaumont (who remain at third place in the standings, -2 from Nantes who will face Toulouse tomorrow), couldn’t do anything to win this game.
