After yesterday’s advances, Round 21 of 2022/23 Superlega CredemBanca or, if you prefer, Round 10 of second leg has been completed today with, finally, some verdicts: salvation mathematically reached for Padova, despite a four sets home defeat against Trento (temporarily at second place in the standings), Monza defeated Modena at tie break on the road and, mathematically,
take a ticket for playoffs, while Taranto (defeated at home by leaders
Perugia) and Siena (defeated at home against Verona) will continue to fight to avoid relegation in next Round, the last one, scheduled next Sunday!
In details…all easy for leaders Sir Safety Susa Perugia who, archived the disastrous semifinal in Del Monte Coppa Italia last week, a game that put an end to their impressive winning streak, back to the victory with a clear straight sets win on the field of Gioiella Prisma Taranto – 0-3 (22:25, 19:25, 19:25).
Another good performance for the guys around head coach Andrea Anastasi, although Leon, Rychlicki and Russo at rest, replaced by Herrera, Solè and Plotnytskyi.
Perugia always led the game, above all in serving, with 9 direct aces with only 12 errors (4 by Plotnytskyi), but also in attack, with a clear 60% of team performance.
3 players in double digit aroud MVP Giannelli: Best scorer wad Cuban Herrera, with 15 points through 67% in attack, 13 by Plotnytskyi (56% in attack), 10 with 83% of an excellent Flavio.
Vero Volley Monza back from Modena with two very very very important points after a thrilling tie break victory (23:25, 18:25, 30:28, 25:18, 16:18)…that are worth their partecipation to the playoffs.
Now they have in fact a +4 lead compared to Cisterna, with only one Round to be played to close regular season.
It was a great game, and a great battle between two great opposites: Lagumdzija on the home side, who ended the game with 33 points, Grozer, for Monza, with 24 points, well supported by outside hitter Maar, who added 27.
The game was very balanced, and with an uncertain final score until the last ball, but it was a great performance of Monza in first set: after a 16-12 disadvantage, they staged a great comeback until 17-17, putting down the ball of 21-24 and, eventually, closing the set 23-25 mostly thanks to three aces (Di Martino, Grozer and Maar), and due winning blocks by Di Martino.
In second set only Monza to the court, with an unstoppable Grozer and a great performance in blocking (they will score 13 points from this element at the end of the game) and defense.
In third surreal set Monza took the lead again, 12-16, but then suffered five points in a row, including 4 blocks and, on the final, they wasted three match balls until the decisive 30-28 for Modena, who played alone the fourth set, ended 25-18.
The tie break was very exciting,
with the hosts who took the lead 7-3. However, an ace by Galassi reopened the set, Monza canceled 4′ match balls to close set and game, 16-18.
After Italian Cup final Four in Rome, and the defeat in Grand Finale, Itas Trentino back to the win in Superlega, and they did it in a Padua’s Kioene Arena sold out in four sets (27:25, 22:25, 21:25, 27:29). Thanks to Modena’s defeat, and their 13th win in italian championship, Trento earn the second place in the standings at +1 from the same Modena (and the two teams will face each others in last Round, next Sunday!)
The hosts Padova, on the other hand, after a brilliant start, suffered the performance of an once again great Kaziyski (25 points, 61% in attack, 1 block, one of Trento’s 3 aces, and MVP awards) and Michieletto (22 points through 54%, 2 block and 1 aces).
Good also Podrascanin (12 points through 64% in attack) and Lavia (13 and 54%), but positive also the return to the starting six of middle blocker Lisinac.
Despite the loss, Padova put on a display of great quality and character, with aces and 10 blocks. Dusan Petkovic leading the team in scoring with 23 points and 2 blocks, 50% attack success rate.
Close the picture a clear straight sets win of WithU Verona on the field of a bad Emma Villas Aubay Siena (21:25, 20:25, 19:25).
Maksim Sapozhkov was the most effective player for Verona with 20 points while Rok Mozic added 15. Nemanja Petric was the top scorer for the defeated team with 12 points.
Siena’s (only) direct rivals, Taranto, now are at +1 in the standings but now the verdict is postponed to next Sunday.
The team from Tuscany region, last placed with 15 points, will play on the field of Monza (already qualified to playoffs, as already mentioned above), while Taranto, 16 points, will play on the field of Powervolley Milano who are still fighting against Cisterna (who will play on the field of Verona next Sunday) for a place in the playoffs…
