Turkey: Round 22 – Big wins for Hekimoglu and Bursa! Fenerbahçe and Arkas KO

Round 22 of 2022/23 AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi Metin Görgün Sezonu has been played today with a couple of big upsets.

The day started with Galatasaray HDI Sigorta’s home win against Develi Bld., a game ended by 3-1 (25:18, 25:21, 20:25, 25:18), mostly thanks to Morteza Sharifi and Thomas Edgar, top scorers of the match with 22 and 21 points respectively, and the same did leaders Halkbank, who defeat Altekma with the same result (25:22, 21:25, 28:26, 25:20), with a good performance in attack and 21 points each by Efelerligi’s bomber Nimir Abdel Aziz and Yigit Gulmezoglu.
Prediction respected also in the game between last-placed Tokat BLD Plevne and Cizre Belediyespor, 0-3 in favor of the visiting side (23:25, 19:25, 22:25), while Türsad needed five sets to win on the field of Spor Toto (25:23, 25:19, 21:25, 24:26, 11:15).

The big news of the day is the great home win of No. 10 Hekimoglu Global Connect Travel BVI over super favorite No. 3 Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta, 3-1 (26:24, 14:25, 25:23, 25:20), who continued to fail to find their continuity in this season. Although an excellent performance in blocking (13 points), nothing to do for the players around coach Daniel Castellani, as the rivals were better in the key moments of the game.

Another big name of Turkish volleyball suffered a defeat today, Arkas Spor, currently at sixth place in the standings, who succumbed at home against No. 5 but less quoted Bursa Büyüksehir Belediye Spor by 1-3 (22:25, 25:22, 23:25, 26:28).
To make the difference the 25 points scored by absolute top scorer Dmitrii Bahov with 56% in attack, two winning blocks and 4 aces.
