Italy: winning debut for Perugia in Playoffs 5th Place. Padova down Modena at tie break

2 min read

Second Round of 2022/23 Playoffs for 5th Place has been played today.

In the first game of the day, a good Sir Safety Susa Perugia, led by MVP Simone Giannelli, take first three points on their debut with a 0-3 (22:25, 22:25, 29:31) victory on the field of Vero Volley Monza.
Nothing to do for the guys around Massimo Eccheli, who start with setter Cachopa and close with Zimmermann, trying also a good Marttila, but the regular season leaders, surprisingly eliminated by Milano (who took today the first step towards an historical final with the 2-1 lead on Cucine Lube Civitanova) are too strong.
The hosts wasted first two sets with lot of errors (5 to 1 in attack and 5 to 3 from the service line only in first set) while, on the other side of the net, Perugia took advantage with Leon and Herrera, who scored 9 points each at the end of second set and 15 each at the end of the game.
Third set ended 29-31, but it doesn’t change the result after 1 hour and 46 minutes of play.
Arthur Szwarc with 18 points in Monza’s jersey was the top scorer of the match, while Galassi, Szwarc and Semeniuk scored 3 blocks each and 2 aces for Giannelli and Herrera.

On the other game, Pallavolo Padova down Valsa Group Modena who surrendered at tie break again (25:21, 22:25, 25:21, 26:28, 15:11) after more than 2 hours of play. Decisive Desmet, not by chance MVP of the match with 19 points, 3 decisive aces in a row, 1 blocks with 47% efficiency.
And now the winners have two points in the standings, the same number of the same Modena and Monza.
