European Silver League: 3 points for Latvia in penultimate game of Pool A

In penultimate game of 2023 European Silver Ligue Pool A, Latvia defeated Cyprus in first of two games scheduled in country’s capital Riga (second one is tomorrow) in a direct clash for first place. The game ended in just three sets in favor of Latvia (25:17, 25:17 and 25:14) after just 73 minutes of play and the winners, better in all elements but above all in blocking (11 to 1), were led in score with 4 players who ended the match in double digits: Kristaps Smits, top scorer with 15 points through 63% in attack, 2 blocks and 1 ace, one more than Renars Jansons, while Gustavs Freimanis and Atvars Ozolinš also contributed with 11 and 10, respectively.
The only player in double digit for Cyprus was Odysseas Savvides who scored 11 points but with only 34% in attack.
