USA down Cuba and advances to semifinals at NORCECA Continental Championship

USA emerged victorious against a determined Cuba securing their spot as the top team in Pool B to move to the semifinals of the NORCECA Senior Men’s Continental Championship.
In an exciting five-set match held at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, they managed to beat the rivals by 3-2, partially 25:22, 25:17, 24:26, 22:25, 15:12). With this victory, USA solidifies their position and will bypass the quarterfinals.
Cuba, on the other hand, will face Mexico in the next round.
Outside hitter Torey DeFalco had a great performance, leading the score charts with 26 points, while his teammates Aaron Russell and Max Holt also contributed with 20 and 12 points respectively.
On the other side of the net Marlon Yant scored 22 points, while Jesus Herrera and Miguel Angel Lopez followed him with 14 and 13 points.
Meanwhile, in Pool A, the Dominican Republic celebrated a decisive 3-0 win (25:21, 25:21, 25:21) over Mexico, and will face Puerto Rico in the quarterfinals. Luis David Baca of Mexico was the top scorer of the game with 20 points to his name, but the combined efforts of Henry Antonio Lopez and Hector Alexis Cruz, with 14 points each, pushed the Dominican Republic to the win.
Moreover Puerto Rico achieved their first win in the competition by beating Suriname in straight-set (25:22, 25:15, 25:21). Klistan Lawrence of Puerto Rico led the winners with 19 points, while his teammates Omar Hoyos and Jamal Ellis both scored 11 points.
Suriname’s top performers were David Pinas and Keven Sporkslede, each tallying 10 points.
