After the advance played yesterday in which Montpellier down Sète in a derby, Round 2 of 2023/24 Marmara Spike League continued today with other four matches.
Our Saturday started with an upset: the great win of Paris over defending champions Tours, by 3-1 (25:21, 25:15, 21:25, 26:24).
Great also the comeback in decisive fourth set from 18-21 to 26-24!
Japanese opposite Kento Miyaura played another great game, ending as absolute top scorer with 23 points to his name including 3 aces, 1 block and 58% in attack, while Joachim Panou also contributed with 18 points and other 4 aces and Daniel Wetter with 4 winning blocks.
Three points also for Plessis-Robinson, who won on the field of newcomers Saint-Jean d’Illac with the same result, 1-3 (25:22, 20:25, 20:25, 17:25) with an amazing performance in attack (60%) but above all in blocking, scoring as many as 16 points from this element, 6 from Mederic Henry. To make the difference also a super match from Samuel Jeanlys, top scorer with 29 points, 2 winning blocks and an impressive 71% in attack!
On the other side of the net Eldin Demirovic ended the game as top scorer with 13 points but with only 37% in attack, while a remarkable performance was the one by Augustin Guerin, and his 6 winning blocks.
Definitely not a good start for Narbonne who, after losing the first game of this new season at home against Paris, and also the first leg of preliminary of CEV Cup in French derby against Nantes, suffered a defeat also in their first away game, on the field of a very good Chaumont, able to close the game in just three sets (25:22, 25:20, 25:9). Narbonne fought in the first two, but eventually collapsed in the third one, ended 25-9.

The hosts were better in all element, starting from attack (53% of team performance to 38%), blocking (10 to 4), serving (7 aces to 1), and reception (68% positive to 46%). MVP of the game Niko Suihkonen, who scored 10 points through 60% in attack and added 4 winning blocks, while Patrick Indra was the most prolific player of the match with 14 points to his name, 2 blocks, 1 ace and 50% in attack.
Once again Brazilian opposite Daniel Cagliari was the only player in double digit for Narbonne, with 12 points, all in attack, through 55%.
Close the picture another team who earned three well-deserved points today, Saint Nazaire, who down Nice by 3-1 (23:25, 29:27, 25:18, 25:18) in front of their home fans.
Lasted 2 hours and 3 minutes, it was a great game in first two sets, but then Nice collapsed, and the hosts managed to close third and fourth set without major problems.
Jordan Ewert was the man of the match as well as the absolute top scorer with 27 points to his name, 53% in attack, 3 winning blocks and 8 of his team’s aces, against 5 of the rivals, an element that made the difference during this clash. Excellent also Helder Mendes Spencer with his 16 points (including 2 aces and 1 block) through an impressive 71% in attack, and Jordan Schnitzer who also contributed with 14, 3 winning blocks and 79% in attack.
In Nice’s jersey, German opposite Simon Hirsch was the most prolific player with 18 points to his name, 3 winning blocks but with only 41% in attack.
Tomorrow Toulouse will face Nantes Rezé while, at 5pm too, Tourcoing will face Poitiers to close Round 2.
