After the advance played yesterday, in which Toulouse defeated former leaders Tourcoing by 3-1, Round 8 of 2023/24 Marmara Spike League continued today with other five games and not big surprises.
Waiting for the big match scheduled tomorrow between one of the top of the standings contenders Nantes Rezé and titleholders and SuperCup winners Tours (only at 11th place for now), Chaumont fly temporarily to the top after a clear 0-3 (14:25, 20:25, 23:25) win on the field of Plessis Robinson.
A win that canceled the amazing performance in blocking for the hosts, who scored 12 points from this element compared to Chaumont’s only 4! Better in attack (the hosts had no players in double digit), but also in. reception and in serving (8 aces to 3), the winners were led in score by Czech opposite Patrick Indra, top scorer of the game with 16 points to his name, 2 aces, 1 block and 54% in attack, followed by Niko Suihkonen and Michael Marshman, who also contributed with 12 an 11 points respectively.
Also other three games ended in straight sets, and only one at tie break, the one between Poitiers and Paris, ended in favor of the hosts with the score of 3-2 (20:25, 25:20, 25:21, 21:25, 16:14).
In more than 2 hours of play, the winners made the difference in blocking, scoring 15 points from this element compared to the rivals’ 8, but also with the performance of one of their players, Alexandros Raptis, absolute top scorer of the match with 29 points to his name, 5 winning blocks and 57% in attack.
Very good performance also for Japanese opposite Kento Miyaura, who scored 25 points for the team from country’s capital (52% in attack, with 3 aces), but he wasn’t enough.
Home win also for Saint Nazaire, who easily sweep winless and last-placed Narbonne in a clear 3-0 (25:13, 25:22, 25:19), leading the game from start to finish with 11 points from Lourenço Martins, the only player in double digit of the game (with 1 ace, 2 blocks and 57% in attack), and libero Ludovic Duee named MVP.
All easy also for Montpellier, who won on the field of Nice penalized by absences without major problems, 0-3 (15:25, 21:25, 13:25).
The winners overpowered Nice in all elements, starting from attack (61% of team performance to only 38%), blocking (11 to 3), serving (7 to 1) and positive reception (59% to 44%).
Moritz Reichert was deservedly named MVP of the game with his 16 points, including 1 ace and an impressive 75% in attack, without errors and blocked once (PHOTOGALLERY OF THE MATCH). Luis Paolinetti was the only player in double digit for Nice, who played also without head coach, replaced by assistant Fabrice Chalendar.
Close the picture the victory of Sète on the field of newcomers Saint-Jean d’Illac, 0-3 (17:25, 26:28, 23:25), after a remarkable comeback of the hosts in second set. The winners led the game basically from start to finish, also in second set, reaching even a 11-16 advantage. However, the story has been closed only at 26-28 and several set points canceled!
The winners could count on 4 players in double digit: opposite Celestin Cardin, top scorer with 16 points, Ardo Kreek (64% in attack and 4 winning blocks) and Juan Gonzez with 12 each, and Lisandro Zanotti, who added 11.
Round 8 will be closed tomorrow, after the big match!
