Italy: Round 8 – Trento win big match in Civitanova! 3 points also for Padova and Piacenza

After the two advances played yesterday, Round 8 of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca continued today with other three games.
In a remake of last season final, titleholders Itas Trentino continued their winning streak celebrating their 8th win in as many games after an impressive 0-3 (17:25, 22:25, 16:25) win at Eurosuole Forum in Civitanova, in which they won only 3 games in 23 played!
Alessandro Michieletto ended the game as top scorer and MVP with 16 points, including 3 aces and 1 block through 57% in attack, but Kamil Rychlicki was also decisive with 13 and 58%. The winners dominated first and third set, and were better than the rivals also in the final stages of the balanced second one to keep their unbeaten record at only -2 from current leaders Perugia, who played one more game.
Three very important points also for Pallavolo Padova, who down Farmitalia Catania by 3-1 (25:18, 18:25, 25:19, 25:18) in front of their home fans in a decisive clash to stay in Superlega.
In a game with lot of errors on both sides (28 errors and thus more than one set given to Catania, and 22 only in serving, with 9 aces, 3 each for Plak and Gardini), the hosts were better in decisive moments and able to reject the rivals’ attempts to reopen the game, also thanks to Cardenas who started from the bench and was named MVP with 10 points, and Plak, who also contributed with 10, 5/5 in attack, 3 aces and 2 blocks.
Padova was absolutely better in attack, with 51% of team performance to 38%, and recorded 10 block points (to 6). Paul Buchegger, with Catania’s jersey, was the top scorer of the match with 22 points, but he was enough.
In the evening Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza celebrated a hard fought 3-0 (27:25, 25:23, 25:20) home win against Rana Verona, at least in first two sets, until the collapse of the rivals in third one.
A match that marked the debut in Superlega of the youngest player ever, 15-years-old Manuel Zlatanov, son of legendary Hristo.
