Halkbank will face Perugia in semifinals of club World Championship, the other is between Suntory Sunbirds and Minas

In an impressive comeback at the 2023 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship in Bengaluru, India, Türkiye’s powerhouse Halkbank Spor Kulübü emerged victorious, securing their spot in the semifinals.
Overcoming a challenging start in the competition, they closed the Pool Stage in the second position in Pool B and is now they’ll face the reigning champions Italy’s Sir Sicoma Perugia, who dominated Pool A.
Meanwhile, Japan’s Suntory Sunbirds, leading Pool B, will face Brazil’s Itambé Minas in the other semifinal.

Halkbank’s journey to the semifinals was absolutely not easy, as their initial defeat to the Sunbirds placed them in a precarious position.
In the Koramangala Indoor Stadium, they needed a decisive victory against Brazil’s Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei to stay in contention, and they did it, winning in straight sets (26:24, 25:18, 28:26), a result that dramatically eliminated the rivals from the tournament.
Earvin Ngapeth led the winners’ score with 16 points, followed by Nimir Abdel-Aziz and Canadian Gordon Perrin.
On the other hand, defending champions Perugia continued their dominant run by not dropping a single set in two days.
Their latest victory over the Ahmedabad Defenders (25:18, 25:19, 25:11) earned them the top spot in Pool A.
Perugia’s opposite Jesus Herrera and outside hitter Oleh Plotnytskyi were decisive in their win. Despite the efforts of the Defenders’ Manoj Lakshmipuram, Perugia proved too strong to overcome.
The semifinals will play on Saturday, followed by the medal matches on Sunday.
