Champions League: fourth week is over! What happened in Pool B and Pool E

3 min read

Fourth week of 2023/24 CEV Champions League is over today with the last four games.
Itas Trentino secured another victory in Pool B, overpowering French rivals Tours VB with a 3-0 win (27:25, 25:22, 25:18).
This victory at the ilT quotidiano Arena in Trento solidified their unbeaten streak, placing them firmly to the top of the Pool.
The match began with some good actions and both teams who entered the court with intense motivation. The hosts set the pace with an early lead, showcasing superior blocking skills. They maintained their dominance throughout the game, backed by stable serving and an aggressive approach in the third set and rejecting all Tours’ attempts to reopen the game, above all in first and second set.
Despite their strong attacking game, Trentino’s defense prowess and powerful serve were the game-changers.
Alessandro Michieletto was named MVP of the game with 22 points to his name including six winning blocks.
On the other game of the same Pool, Asseco Resovia Rzeszów also secured a straight sets victory against ACH Volley Ljubljana (25:16, 25:16, 25:19), placing them just behind Trentino in the standings. Tours VB now stands third, facing an uphill battle to regain their position.
In Pool E, Cucine Lube Civitanova marked their fourth straight win in the competition after beating Czech team VK Lvi Praha with a 3-0 victory (25:20, 25:23, 25:23), propelling them to the Quarterfinals as group leaders, with two games still to be played.
Lube Volley displayed a great resilience, especially in the highly contested last two sets. Simone Anzani and Bottolo were decisive, with the latter’s named MVP of the game while top scorers Adis Lagumdzija and Marlon Yant contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively. VK Lvi Praha, despite a good effort by setter Jakub Janouch saw no player in double digit.
In another Pool E game, Greenyard Maaseik emerged victorious over C.S. Arcada Galati, with a 3-1 win (25:23, 23:25, 25:23, 25:14).
Adam Bartos, with 24 points, led the winners (56% in attack, 1 block and 4 aces), closely followed by Jolan Cox who also contribuente with 21 points.
On the losing side, Aaro Nikula was the top scorer with 21 points.
