Champions League: 5th week starts today with victories of Tours, České Budejovice and Arcada Galati

In first three matches in the 2023/24 CEV Champions League Week 5 played on Tuesday, Tours VB, Arcada Galati, and VK Jihostroj České Budějovice emerged victorious.
In Pool B, France’s titleholders Tours triumphs over Polish powerhouse Asseco Resovia Rzeszow, demonstrating their prowess with a clean straight-set win (25:22, 25:18, 27:25). Antoine Pothron, leading the charge for the winners with 13 points, played a important role in their success, while young Julien Faganas, claiming the MVP title, contributed with 12 points.
In Pool D, VK Jihostroj České Budějovice from Czech Republic secured a clear sweep against Germany’s SVG Lüneburg, with scores of 25:16, 25:19, and 25323. Agustin Ignacio Luegnas was the most prolific player for the winners with 20 points. Despite a strong performance from Canadian opposite Xander Ketrzynski, Lüneburg couldn’t stop the rivals.
In a nail-biting encounter in Pool E, Romania’s C.S. Arcada Galati pulled off a 3-2 victory over Italian powerhouse Cucine Lube Civitanova (21:25, 25:23, 25:20, 16:25, 15:10).
Aaro Nikula’s impressive performance was decisive in Galati’s win, especially in the crucial sets and this victory propels the winnes to third in the group, shaking up the standings in Pool E.
Cucine Lube Civitanova maintained their leading position despite this defeat, that did not affect their standing in the rankings.
