After the advance played yesterday, in which Nantes staged a great comeback to win the derby on the field of Saint Nazaire, Round 17 of 2023/24 Marmara Spike League has been completed today.
The news of the day is that leaders Chaumont suffered a home defeat against a great Plessis Robinson, 2-3 (25:20, 21:25, 17:25, 25:15, 7:15). In a game with lot of ups and downs in both sides, the hosts collapsed in the fifth set, but keeping a +5 advantage from pursuers Saint Nazaire.
Titleholders Tours celebrated their 9th win in a row in Ligue A after a 1-3 (24:26, 20:25, 25:23, 15:25) success on the field of Poitiers, with 14 winning blocks and 24 points from a great Aboubacar Drame Neto, including 1 ace, 1 block and 64% in attack. Leandro Santos (62% in attack, with 5 blocks and 2 aces), Nicolas Mendez (52% and 1 block) and Michael Parkinson (73% in attack and 4 blocks) also contributed with 12
points each. Metin Toy tallied 22 for the losing side.
A result that is worth the sixth place in the standings with the same
number of points, 32, of No.5 Montpellier, who today easily defeated Nice in front of their home fans with the score of 3-0 (25:21, 25:20, 25:21). Better in all elements, the winners started slowly in each set, but eventually they were able to recover and to win the game after 1 hours and 27 minutes of play, with 18 points from top scorer Dimitar Dimitrov (2 blocks, 1 ace and 68% in attack). Double digit also for other 4 players: Moritz Reichert, with 12 points to his name, Luka Marttila, who added 11, and middle blockers Nicholas Le Goff and Danny Demyanenko, who also contributed with 10 each.
Not a good news for Nice, now second-to-last in the standings due the straight sets win of Narbonne over a disappointing Sète – 0-3 (25:27, 21:25, 22:25). Daniel Cagliari ended the game as top scorer with 18 points to his name through 61% in attack and 4 aces.
Newcomers Saint Jean D’Illac remained to the bottom of the standings now at -3 from Nice and -4 from Narbonne.
After winning first set, they suffered a 3-1 (19:25, 25:19, 25:19, 25:23) defeat on the field of No.4 Tourcoing, led in score by opposite Pablo Koukartsev, absolute top scorer of the match with 25 points to his name through 53% in attack and 1 block, while Ryley Barnes also contributed with 14.
Close the picture the four sets win of Paris on the field of Toulouse – 1-3 (23:25, 25:20, 28:30, 21:25), with 24 points from Japanese opposite Kento Miyaura (2 aces, 1
block and 50% in attack) and 21 from Joachim Panou, with 3 aces and 3 blocks. Paris remain at 10th place, and Touluse at 7th.
