The last weekend will be hard to forget for the town of Kuopio, in the heart of Finland, as both local teams, men’s and women’s, brought home the Finnish Cup from Turku, where the finals were held.
Historic success, in particular, that of the women’s team Puijo Wolley, which won the first ever trophy in its short history, as the club was only founded in 2016!
Starting as an absolute outsider, the third-placed team in the last championship prevailed in the final with a surprising straight sets win (25:20, 25:22, 25:15) over the most quoted Polkky Kuusamo.
Already in the semi-final, Pekka Seppanen’s team had surprised with a great comeback from 0-2 to 3-2 LP Kangasala, while Kuusamo eliminated Hameenlinnan, the defending champions, with a clear 3-0 victory.
In the final, Puijo completed their masterpiece with 18 points by 20-year-old opposite Selma Rasanen.

In the men’s final, Savo Volley Kuopio won their second Cup in club’s history by winning in the final with the same result, 3-0 (25:22, 25:17, 25:18), against Raision Loimu Rasio, another surprise of the season, with 17 points of the American outside-hitter Michael Michelau.
In the semi-final, against all odds, they won 3-1 against Akaa Volley, which reached the semi-finals of Challenge Cup before surrendering to Polish powerhouse Projekt Warszawa, while Raision beat Kokkolan Tilkerit 3-0.
