France: Pelegrín Vargas “Pele” to Narbonne as a medical joker

Narbonne signs Pelegrín Vargas as a medical joker.
Like Willner Rivas, he played the Pan American Cup!

With Thibaut Thoral sidelined indefinitely due health problems, and penalized also by injuries to Wilner Rivas and Liam Patte, both sidelined with tendinopathy, Narbonne officially announced the arrival of Pelegrín Vargas “Pele”.
The 27-year-old Puerto Rican outside hitter joins the currently 10th placed in 2025/26 MARMARA Spike League and will experience the French championship for the first time in his career, having previously played in Puerto Rico, Greece, Spain, and Bahrain, and he come from Caribes de San Sebastián, a club playing in Puerto Rico.

The announcement was made by club president Bastien Anglade at a press conference:
“Today, we are pleased to announce the signing of Pelegrín Vargas, an outside hitter who comes directly from Puerto Rico. He finished his season last Sunday and arrives in Narbonne today.”

“He will therefore not be available against Tours, but we hope to be able to count on him for the match against Saint-Nazaire on Tuesday,” the Narbonne manager stated.

The president also explained that, given the difficulties Narbonne has faced for just over a month, including injuries and absences, and disappointing results (three consecutive losses, including a ten-game losing streak away from home, placing the club in tenth position), the club quickly contacted some agents to hire an outside hitter.

“There were several options, but we do have the challenge of having to recruit a player from the European Union. This player is from Puerto Rico, but he has a Spanish passport, which facilitates the process, particularly regarding the work visa.”

As Bastien Anglade pointed out, his profile differs from that of Thibaut Thoral: “He is a relatively complete player, with a slightly different profile from Thibaut,” he said. “He is more inclined towards attack and corresponds to the identity of the club and who should get used to it very quickly.”
