Italy: all results of Round 19 – Monza win derby vs. Milano. 3 points for Trento, Perugia, and Verona. 2 for Modena and Padova

5 min read

Round 19 of 2023/24 Italian SuperLega Credem Banca or, if you prefer, Round 8 of second leg, has been entirely played today, featuring intense matchups across the board.
The day started with the derby between Allianz Milano and Mint Vero Volley Monza, won by the visiting side who secured a clean 1-3 victory (21:25, 23:25, 25:20, 16:25), with standout performances from Arthur Szwarc and Stephen Maar, both securing 22 points. Despite the efforts of Yuki Ishikawa and Osniel Mergarejo, scoring 14 and 12 points respectively for the hosts, still without captain Matteo Piano and Matey Kaziyski (on the bench), Monza proved too strong.

3 points also for leaders Itas Trentino, who claimed a victory in big match against Cucine Lube Civitanova by 3-1 (25:22, 19:25, 25:19, 25:21). Nothing changes, however, in the standings as Civitanova remained to the 4th place at -1 from Piacenza. Without Aleksandar Nikolov and Ivan Zaytsev, on the field Mattia Bottolo (10 points with 1 ace and 2 winning blocks ), and Marlon Yant, author of 15 points just like opposite Adis Lagumdzija.
To make the difference is the attack, with 52% of team performance compared to Lube’s 40%, led by MVP and top scorer of the match Alessandro Michieletto, with 23 points to his name through 58% in attack, 2 aces and 2 blocks, Daniele Lavia and Kamil Rychlicki, who added 18 each.
Sir Susa Vim Perugia, with Simone Giannelli on the bench, replaced by a very good Gregor Ropret, overcame Cisterna Volley (still without Efe Bayram) on the road with the score of 1-3 (19:25, 25:22, 22:25, 18:25), led by Wilfredo Leon with 20 points, well supported by Kamil Semeniuk who added 18 points through 58% in attack and 4 aces. Double digit also Wassim Ben Tara (11 with 2 muri) and Jesus Herrera (10 through an impressive 80% in attack and 2 aces). Théo Faure, in Cisterna’s jersey, stood out with 23 points to his name but it wasn’t enough to secure at least one point.
Rana Verona defeated Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza with a scoreline of 3-1 (25:22, 25:15, 20:25, 25:21), celebrating their 10th win in last 11 games, with Rok Mozic’s leading performance, author of 19 points. Piacenza’s Yoandy Leal emerged as the top scorer of the match with 24 points to his name, yet his team couldn’t clinch the win.
The round also witnessed a thrilling five-sets-battle between Valsa Group Modena and Gioiella Prisma Taranto, with Modena emerging victorious 3-2 (22:25, 25:19, 25:21, 25:27, 15:9) with 28 points from Uladzislau Davyskiba, closely followed by Taranto’s José Miguel Gutierrez, who scored 25 points.
Another closely contested match saw Pallavolo Padova edge out Farmitalia Catania 2-3 (23:25, 25:21, 20:25, 25:19, 11:15), where Padova’s Luca Porro shone again with 25 points to his name through 43% in attack, and Catania’s Randazzo put up a valiant effort with 22 points through 47% in attack. Although there are still 3 games to be played, now is official: relegation for Catania and, consequently, Taranto, Padova and Cisterna will remain in Superlega!
