CEV Cup: Resovia join Lüneburg in Final! Fenerbahçe defeated at home in straight sets

It will be an unexpected final the one of 2023/24 CEV Cup!
Germany’s SVG Lüneburg, who surprisingly eliminated Turkish powerhouse Arkas Izmir yesterday at Golden Set, will face Poland’s Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, who won also the second leg against Arkas’ compatriots Fenerbahçe PRL Istanbul.
After winning at home first leg, a week ago, the players around head coach Giampaolo Medei were able to close two sets that they needed and then leaving the place to second lines in third one, and 0-3 (17:25, 14:25, 26:28) is the final result.
The winners made the difference above all in blocking and from the servince line, also taking advantage from bad day of Drazen Luburic and Dock Kooy, authors of only 5 and 7 points, through 31 and 40%, respectively, but also in attack 53% of team performance against the hosts’ only 37%).
Great game for Torey Defalco, who closed the game with 15 points in just 2 sets through 55% in attack including 2 aces and 2 blocks.
For Resovia this will be a chance to play a final 12 years later, and 12 years ago was also the last CEV Cup final played by a Polish team, while for Lüneburg will be the first one in club history (last German team who played – and won – a final was Berlin Recycling Volleys in 2016).
